Name: Midge
Type: Alaskan Malamute Mix
Sex: Female
Age: Adult
Midge...This dog is absolutely delightful. She is healthy, playful, house and leash trained, loving and affectionate to all people.... and she gets along with friendly dogs (male and female) who respect her status as dowager queen. Why is she a Special Needs Dog? Because she is no longer young. Midge is a Mal mix. She weighs about 40 pounds, making her the perfect dog for someone who lives in an apartment or who wants a "little less dog to wrangle." Midge is a character. She likes her crate and loves her dog bed. When she first came into rescue, she spent a little time outside in an isolation kennel. We put her bed in her dog house. She was bored and made the bed a toy. Every morning, she hauled her bed out into the yard and buried it. In the evening, she dug it up and pulled it into the dog house. Even now, she plays with her bed. When it's warm she shoves it out of her crate. When it's cool, you can find her curled up on it. Midge has a rather sad story. She had owners who evidently took good care of her. She did not have heart worms or intestinal parasites when we got her. And she was FAT. She was surrendered to a high kill shelter by her owners who got a couple of young dogs that promptly beat Midge up. Midge fought back - and lost her home. Initially she was very wary of other animals and warned them away from her crate. Now she knows she's safe and she easily shared a yard with another very gentle laid back Mal female and my old Malamute male, Walker. In fact, in Walker's last days, he liked to sleep between Miley's and Midge's crates. This dog does not have a gray hair in her muzzle, and after a while on a diet, she is svelte and attractive. She deserves a very special home where her doggy bed is right next to her loving owners. Instead, she waits.....
