| Obviously, THIS is not a malamute – but how did this houndy dog end up with a Malamute Rescue? Well, it is not as uncommon as you may think – but Heidi's story goes back about 3 years when I convinced a Ashley to become my pet-sitter. She was a high school student who was an excellent horsewoman, and I figured if she could handle a 1200 pound horse, a 90 pound Malamute would be no problem – I then took her on the adventure of Malamute training, and then into rescue. Heidi was abandoned at the vet clinic Ashley was working at and was adopted by her. One night I got a phone call from Ashley – Heidi had just attacked Dad's cat and was under arrest – to be banished from the house – or worse. This is how Heidi entered the Malamute Rescue Witness Protection Program, hiding amongst the foster Mals and learning how to howl and play the Malamute way. Heidi is a happy, energetic dog, loves to run and play and gets along well with the other dogs here, if they don't tease her. Crate trained and house broken, at two years old she still has a lot of 'puppy' in her and would really love to be someone's special dog. |
